Olympic Champion Damian Warner Withdraws from Decathlon After Pole Vault Disaster

Heartbreak in Paris as Canada's Golden Boy Bows Out

34-year-old Damian Warner of London, Ontario, was sitting in 18th place after a disastrous pole vault performance when he made the difficult decision to withdraw from the decathlon competition at the Paris Olympics.

"I'm Devastated," Says Warner

"I'm absolutely devastated," Warner told Canadian reporters in Paris on Sunday. "I've been working so hard for this for so many years, and it's all over in an instant."

Warner, the reigning Olympic champion in the decathlon, was a heavy favorite to medal in Paris. However, his hopes were dashed after he failed to clear the bar in the pole vault, an event in which he is typically one of the strongest competitors.

A Dramatic and Unpredictable Decathlon

Warner's withdrawal came after a thrilling and unpredictable decathlon competition. Markus Rooth of Sweden ultimately claimed gold, while Warner's teammate Pierce LePage finished in fifth place.

Warner's withdrawal marks a major setback for Canada's Olympic hopes. He was one of the country's top medal contenders, and his absence will be felt in the overall medal count.
