No Survivors in Devastating Accident

Investigation Underway

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) — A passenger plane carrying 62 people crashed in a residential area near Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Friday afternoon, killing all on board, according to Brazilian authorities.

The plane, operated by Pantanal Airways, was en route from Campo Grande to Sao Paulo when it plunged into a gated community, causing a massive fireball and destroying several homes. Dramatic social media videos captured the moment of impact, showing the plane nosediving into the neighborhood.

Among the victims were a 3-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy traveling with his pet dog, and a couple who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary. The crash is the worst air disaster in Brazil since 2007, when a TAM Express plane crashed and burst into flames at Congonhas Airport in Sao Paulo, killing 199 people.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash. Witnesses reported seeing the plane flying low and struggling to gain altitude before it went down. The wreckage is being recovered for further analysis.
