Michail Antonio Became West Ham United’s Outright Top Scorer in the Premier League
West Ham United produced a dominant performance to thrash Leicester City 4-1 in their Premier League clash at the London Stadium on Monday, August 23, 2021.
Pablo Fornals gave the hosts the lead in the 26th minute, before Said Benrahma doubled their advantage shortly after the hour mark. Michail Antonio then added two late goals to seal the victory for West Ham.
The win moves West Ham into fifth place in the Premier League table, while Leicester drops down to 13th.
West Ham started the match brightly and created a number of early chances, but it was Leicester who took the lead against the run of play. Jamie Vardy fired the Foxes ahead in the 12th minute after being played through by James Maddison.
However, West Ham hit back quickly and equalized through Fornals' strike. The Spaniard found the bottom corner of the net with a well-taken shot from the edge of the area.
West Ham continued to press for a winner in the second half and were rewarded when Benrahma scored a superb goal. The Algerian winger cut inside from the left and curled a shot into the top corner.
Antonio then put the game to bed with two late goals. The striker headed home a cross from Vladimir Coufal in the 80th minute and then added another four minutes later to make sure of the victory.
The win was West Ham's first in the Premier League this season and will give them confidence ahead of their next match against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
